Looking Beyond SEO

SEO is a technique where digital marketer uses it to keep high rank of a website in Google’s search results, is this it? After doing SEO would it help retain the users?
To answer that question let me tell you a short story of Johnny Boy (20) he is a normal boy with keen interest in adventure sports especially trekking. Once he was invited to a contest for the title of trekking master but the contest was not the normal contest, here contenders had to lead a team of four people without them being present with the team. In other word contenders had to lay a path for his team to reach the destination. And so the contest started, our hero Johnny Boy started to find shortest path with less hurdles and on the way he put signage to lead the team to destination.

Now back to the question after doing SEO would it help retain the users?


Like Johnny Boy we have to put signage to navigate the user through the website this signage are called internal page navigation or internal links that guides the user through the website so the user can reach the destination.
But even after putting those signage if Johnny’s team couldn’t find or understand it they would just return to the starting point and leave the contest, similarly if a user visits a website and couldn’t find what he wants the user would leave the page and this is called bounce rate in digital world where user leaves the page without spending actual time on the website.
But, if Johnny’s team understands that signage and makes it to the end we call this a conversion i.e. a user spends time on website and make it to the end page generally “contact us” page. There is also a term called conversion ratio that means” of the number of visitors how many made it to the goal”. In terms of our story of the many teams how many reach the destination.
Therefore SEO is just a doorway, it can make a website visible in the user’s sight but the actual motive behind the business cannot be achieved i.e. to retain the consumers and thus the actual battle begins after the SEO of a website and that can be achieved by above steps, they are; good internal page navigation, ensuring less bounce rate, good conversion ratio, well laid out content to goal funnel etc.
Well that’s it and yes the story- as soon as the contest begins Johnny’s teammate started following the path that’s been laid by the Johnny the team didn’t feel troubled as the instructions given by Johnny was simple and easy to understand and to everyone’s surprise the Johnny’s team made through the contest with the record holding time and thus the Johnny Boy’s been given the title of the “Trekking Master”.
Moral of the story “by doubting oneself one can know ones limitation but until and unless you challenge your limitation one cannot know ones true potential” (Johnny’s challenge was being a leader).
