I recieved an emailer from linkedin, which said i could send inmails to some defined number of users absolutely free and the best part was i could also view details of those peeping into my profile. To my very unpleasant surprise upon following through the link i was guided to a payment page asking my credit card details. The heading on the payment page brazenly said ” Discount applies to the promotional period only. Your card will start being charged when the promotional period has ended”. This reminded me of those adult sites who would try to lure people into free offers but would seek credit card details on the pretext of age verification ( am sure a lot of us would have had those experience ).
- This emailer campaign from linkedin has raised questions which are tough for me to understand.
- Why would a brand like linkedin stoop to such emailers where their brand gets a beating ? At least i felt cheated by linkedin since it raised my expectation only to be brought down.
- While the open rate and click through rate for this emailer campaign is going to be high but what would happen to the conversion ratio?
- What would have happened if the promised “free” service was actually delivered? would there have been a possibility of better customer acquisition.
