Very quietly google has changed the entire search algorithm for its search product.
To put it in context we will use a small example.. its like owning a desktop from the 90’s which was state of the art when new, but in today’s world it is outdated…. sure you can upgrade the CPU by adding RAM or a little bit of Video card but essentially the motherboard and processor would still be old…. to completely revamp the CPU you would need to take our the old motherboard and processor and then replace it with the latest version having all the power and gizmos you can think of….
This is what google has done, they have simply changed the entire algorithm for search…
It has been almost a month now since google has been rolling out the new algo… it is just that they decided to let the world know yesterday…
What will be the impact of this is hard to say right now… it could be a few search queries get impacted or maybe all of them get impacted… all the world can do is wait and watch how search traffic is affected for their respective websites…
for example: search for “movies in pune” or “flights from pune” what you see is not a link for a website but a result that is given by google itself… now what does this mean??? is google trying to squeeze out content providers which just provide information for services not their own (killing their pageviews) or are they trying to genuinely go for better user experience as in no need to go to any website for information needed it is all available on google itself.. we leave this discussion open..
where do we go from here…
Definitely structured data or schema implementation would have an impact on local searches… schema lets you provide google with exact data that you would want your patrons to see when they do a search.
for example: search for “lavenir institute pune address” the result set is not a link to our website but the address is displayed directly for the users which is a better user experience…
So all in all we can expect a few fireworks in the coming weeks as the results from the changes start hitting home….
